Compiling pug on the client?

Sorry for the noobness. After writing the page on pug (former jage), we compile it with gulp'om, as far as I remember, there was some kind of possibility to compile either on the server or on the client
1) Is it possible?
2) What is needed for this? node.js on the server?
3) Is there a client compilation or did it seem to me so?
4) If all this is true, then how does the programmer make templates from such code?
