CMS or write from scratch?
Hello. I want to make a website. It will be something like a social network. Before that, a few years ago, I made a very simple site with articles, even without registration. In general, there is little experience. Advise, use CMS (WordPress) or write everything from scratch yourself? I understand that the project is quite complex, and if you write everything yourself, you will have to learn a lot of things and it will take a lot of time. But, if we take CMS as a basis, will I be able to implement all the functions (let's say that the social network will be similar to VK) and how productive will the site be? If nevertheless CMS, then advise which one is more suitable and good sources describing how to modify it.

Firstly, such projects as a social network are developed not by one person, but by a team of specialists from different fields.
Secondly, if you don’t know shit (except for a simple website), then you don’t have to take on a project of this level now at all. For it will take you a few years before the beta launch.
Thirdly, using a CMS means being in constant search, that is, googling where and what to fix, even the simplest things. For social networks there is SocialEngine, perhaps the coolest system. The WordPress you suggested is not a social networking system, even though there are tons of plugins out there. You will only fill the bumps on the brain, and in the end you will not do anything.
Well, and the last, the fourth.
I honestly advise.
