Cinnamon broke Unity on Ubuntu 14.04. What to do?

I installed Cinnamon Nightly on Ubuntu 14.04, I wanted to run it separately from the unit. But a terrible thing happened: the package messed up something in the configs of either the unit or the gnome, and the desktop began to display crookedly: the wallpaper disappeared, the icons "forked", etc.
Removed Cinnamon:

sudo apt-get purge Cinnamon
sudo apt-get upgrade Unity

Two options for loading the gnome disappeared (from the user's login menu, where you can select a shell), the screen returned to normal, but some applications were deleted, what was left was wildly slow, the unit did not work like before.
Made this:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install unity

did not help. There is an assumption that purge Cinnamon pulled something important with it.
Please help and advice! I am not an advanced user in Linux, so I do not really understand what's what. I really do not want to reinstall the system, I did not find a solution myself. I will be very grateful!

@opium

if it slows down, then it means that he removed the firewood on the vidyuhi, put them on and everything will be fast for you,
and somehow you need to look at what puts and removes the apt-get, and not thoughtlessly write it.
