Choosing a mail infrastructure on windows server 2012?

Hello! There are vds with windows server 2012 r2 (1 gig of RAM, 20 gig of HDD is still free), there are a couple of asp sites spinning there. There was a need to have no more than a dozen domain boxes. I googled - I do not have enough resources to deploy Microsoft Exchange, the relay is not suitable, I need history and receiving letters. Can eat what that lightweight alternative or only Exchange?
