Choosing a CMS for a blog
Of course, the first option is wordpress, but I heard too many negative reviews about the second version related to performance. The blog is not for me, so I can’t say what attendance will be there, but I couldn’t find out at least approximately :) But it’s desirable to have something easier. are unlikely to take powerful hosting.
How is the performance of the third version?
The second option that came to mind is drupal, somewhere in the same weight category, unfortunately, although I really like it.
Actually ... I don’t really know anything else what to choose, because. I've never really been interested in blogging. What other options are there?
Or maybe with WordPress / Drupal not everything is as bad as it seems to me and take them?

Considering only stand alone? If not, then blogspot, IMHO, is a very good option, especially if you spend time on tuning and some money on your domain (or link free .org.ru .net.ru .pp.ru, etc.). From standalone MaxSite CMS is not bad if 100500 WordPress themes and plugins are required.
habari pleases me more and more, while it is much lighter than wp. Offsite - habariproject.org/en/
The most popular are Drupal, WordPress 3, MovableType, b2evolution and Russian Livestreet.
To facilitate the choice, there is an auto -installation of Russian versions of these blogging systems from the “one-click” control panel.
Well, as an option, you can try several others: Serendipity, Pmachinefree, LifeType, DotClear, EasyMoblog, Geeklog.
In my opinion, it is better to choose between WP and MT.
Everyone who has been negative about WP just doesn't know how to smoke it. Do not listen, use Wordpress and you will be happy. And there will be questions, you already know where they will answer you :)
Set Textpattern. If you're more of a designer than a coder, this is a great choice. The generation time of a regular page in a regular site in a regular shared hosting is 0.2-0.5 sec.
You can install Drupal, enable non-aggressive caching in it, and at first this will definitely be enough for you. And then if the question of development arises, then you can either finish it or move to a better hosting. But the backlog in terms of functionality is gigantic.
Again, there is wordpress.com, blogspot.com, livejournal.com - depending on the audience, this might be the best choice. There is an opinion that more programmers live on the blogspot than on other blogging systems.
You can try the little-known Cotonti engine . It’s quite suitable for a blog, it’s quite reliable, the code is simple and understandable, it develops quite quickly, the majority of developers are Russian speakers, with the help of skins you can change the engine beyond recognition. In terms of server loads, it is unpretentious (I know sites with traffic under 5000 uniques, which have been working on shared hosting for more than a year). It has two disadvantages - poor documentation (but there is a Russian forum with useful things), a small community, there are few plugins and skins from here, but both the first and second are made to order.
Now alpha testing (raw alpha) of the new version of the engine has begun, if anyone is interested in looking at this miracle beast, you are welcome :).
Oh yes, the license is FreeBSD
If you want to experiment - movabletype.org
It's in Perl, but it generates html files. It turns out pretty quickly.
I have a WP site with more than 5 thousand posts 20 000 comments, it completely eats up 2x processor xeon 2.8
5 thousand visits per day.
came to the Drupal forum, told them mmol I want to move to Drupal, they said that it would be even worse with Drupal. the number of SKUL requests will increase by 4-5 times ...
and my May school suffers in the evenings anyway ... the base weighs 400 meters
Wordpress + Hyper Cache or any other caching plugin.
WP is used by such large sites as SmashigMagazine, tuts+ Network and others. I think they have enough visitors. And if there is attendance, then, as a rule, there is also money to pay for more or less normal hosting.
From myself I can say that WP is quite enough for 800-1000 visitors daily on a very inexpensive hosting.
I use Serendipity (http://www.s9y.org/) for personal purposes. Small and cute.
I also advise you to take a look at MovableType - although I stopped using it, I liked it.
wordpress, if your blog should at least somehow rise above “I write a blog solely for myself and for those who accidentally come across it through random links”
About performance and so on - nonsense if you do not use cheap hosting.
Yes, there is wordpress.com.
There is a smart nucleus. I used it, it’s quite suitable for a blog, and there are enough plugins.
www.nibbleblog.com/ru very convenient system, easy to make templates for it
