Choice: make 2 applications (free and paid) on Android or make one, but with in-app purchase?

The application (not the game) is almost ready, now the final stage. What is the best way to make in-app purchases (remove ads, buy functionality), or make 2 applications - free (with ads, with limited functions) and paid version (without ads and fully functional)?
The application is quite promising, a lot of effort and money has been invested.
What do those who have already passed this or that path advise?

My story: The
1st app was released immediately free of charge and without ads.
The 2nd application - the PRO version - had to be released separately - you can’t make the free one later paid, with the same code base you come to build two projects twice
3rd application - the evolution of the first project - was immediately with a built-in purchase - unlocking to Pro.
Bottom line: With half the user base, an app with inapp brings in as much as buying a Pro - and yet users don't ask questions about how to transfer data.
Tip: make an in-app purchase and don't add ads at all - earn on grateful users, not on ad-fucked ones.

Brief description of the application. Here you need to take into account how your competitors operate, what is the target audience and many other factors.

both methods are hacked, so if it is really worthwhile, it will be hacked and everyone will use it without paying, with in-app purchases it’s a little more difficult, only those who have root will use it, since such programs exist. Only rooted devices also get rid of ads. so the choice seems obvious

Do it free. There are a lot of ways to monetize applications on android...

I have long understood that it is hard for users to pay for something they cannot see and cannot feel.
Look towards advertising. But not on the half-screen windows, but on contextual advertising for the context of your application.
Travel app? You can help the user buy tickets from company N, you can help book a room from hotel M, etc.

At the moment I have two applications (free and paid), one with free ads and one with limited functionality. Now I want to switch to in app billing. Why? Firstly, when I install my free application myself, because of the ads, I want to remove it. Therefore, I decided to completely abandon advertising, it was very annoying for everyone. Secondly, I immediately want to check the entire functionality of the application and not part of it, so I decided to make a 30th trial, with a further subscription. Why did you choose to subscribe? Because I understood one thing for myself, if you really need this application, then you will install it and buy it (of course, if the price is reasonable), if not, then let them choose competitors who are free and crooked. Now I'm thinking about the question of how to translate two applications into one. How to remove one version of the application from the publication and notify all users that the new application purchase policy will apply for the time being.
