Choice between Java and JS?

Hello! Now I'm studying Java on a well-known resource. I study alone, without programmer friends, without mentors and courses. In order to write android applications. Naturally, a lot of negative thoughts come up.
But then suddenly the other day I met a friend who started studying JS for half a year, then took online courses and now he is already being taken for an internship with a salary of $ 1500 (Kyiv). And that baffled me. I would like to hear the opinion of experienced people in the field.
And then the temptation stuck in my head ... learning is easier, the entry threshold is lower.

1. As my father has been telling me for several years now: you need to climb where you would like to do and where there is room for growth, and not chase grandmas. In your case, you are trying to chase money.
2. Programming does not mean stupidly specifying a programming language and writing in it. This is experience, a style of thinking, a way of solving complex problems and everything else. This is something that cannot be taken away from you, even if you change the language 10 times. Therefore, it is worth aiming at obtaining professional skills.
3. I believe that no one. never sits in the same language, exactly as it does not solve the same problems all the time. There is no growth in this (the very thing that is very necessary). Java and Javascript are not so radically different languages that it is difficult to switch from one language to another. It may be more difficult to switch to solving a different category of tasks. But the more interesting (if the tasks interest you).
4. During my 3 incomplete years of single work, I had to solve many problems that, as a rule, were above my level of skills, thus, gaining experience in solving related problems, I got some idea of what I still need study. At the beginning I had the same questions as you.
5. Your friend is lying, talking about 1.5k bucks a month, gaining knowledge in courses alone. Courses are nothing if there is no practice, and there are two options, either he purposefully spent a lot of time analyzing the material, taught, practiced and repeated all this day after day, or you misunderstood each other. However, see paragraph 2, having vast experience in solving the tasks set (especially relevant at the moment), you can be competitive even without perfect knowledge of any language.
PS My opinion does not claim to be truly true, but perhaps the TS will be able to learn something for himself.

Strange choice between Java || js.
If we are talking about web programming, then of course JS, in particular Node.js, etc.
And if we are talking about an integrated approach to the issue, then Java.
I would choose Java. I do not want to argue about what is better or worse ... Everyone has their own opinion.
And so the rating of programming languages can be viewed here:

I would be guided by what area you are primarily interested in - there are no universal PLs, each language is suitable for solving a specific range of tasks. If you want to make websites, then java script, if you are developing for android or corporate applications, then java. This time. Secondly, Java is more difficult as a first programming language. I also started with it, but then switched to another language. In addition, keep in mind that with Java they mainly go to work for offices, if you work as a freelancer, then a rather long cycle took an order, did the job, and received money. With java script and websites, the entry threshold is lower, the cycle is shorter, but the competition is more for me, but freelancing has a lot of java script work. I decided for myself that I would be engaged in the web and therefore I don’t think to return to Java)
