Check the number of packets that come from the user?

Is it possible and how to find out the number of requests / packets that the user sends to my site?
Set a limit and if it is exceeded, issue a captcha as it does in VK if you send a lot of drugs.

Count in $_SESSION, for example, or better in memcache
set the captcha flag and verification code in the same place
