Chat running in the background

Temporarily got hold of Lumia 820 on WP8. I like everything, I want to buy even more in the end 920. But I ran into the same trouble as with the Lumia 800 - the inconvenient work of instant messengers. After returning to the main screen or even tapping on a push notification, the programs start up again, start connecting, getting a list of contacts, and so on. Offhand, this is done by IM +, Nimbuzz and even native Skype. Terribly uncomfortable.

But, as far as I remember, one of the advertised features of WP8 was just multitasking. Is there really no messenger that can be as “permanent” as your favorite Google Talk on Android? If there is, or I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Alas, this is a common problem. All programs, when launched through the main screen, do not restore their state, but are reloaded. I’m already used to minimizing them not with the “back” button, but with the “home” button, then going back through the list of running tasks by long pressing the “back” button.

Yeah. It's called Fast App Resume . Was that meant?
However, I'm not sure if this will allow applications to run in the background. Simply, if the application has already been launched and has been minimized, then it will not start from scratch, but will open from the minimized state.
Well, apparently, many applications written for WP7 have not yet been updated and do not use the chips provided by WP8. It remains to wait and hope.

That's right, apps don't run in the background, they just save their state and run from where they were closed.
As an alternative, you can make a client that will keep all connections on the server side, and send push notifications to the device. those. the device will work as if in a passive mode, receiving and sending messages to the server, and it, in turn, will work with IM.
As far as I understand, in android the software easily works in the background, on iOS it takes about 60 seconds to complete all devices, or you need to additionally request time, but the AppStore does not like this, or create a service for IM so that it works and receives all the necessary requests . On WP8, it seems that there are no background services. In general, despite my dislike for WP, this is not bad behavior, because. Push is better than some separate functions of each background process.

Not an option, of course, but the built-in facebook chat in WP7 (and apparently in WP8 too) works great in the background.
