Changing screen resolution on Ubuntu 11.10

The question, in fact, in the title of the topic - how to change the resolution in Ubuntu?
Given: Extremely buggy laptop hardware configuration ( previous question ) that doesn't run NVIDIA's proprietary drivers.

xrandr thinks my display has only two available resolutions - 800x600 and 1024x768.
Question: how to teach Ubuntu the declared resolution of 1366x768 without installing buggy NVIDIA drivers?
A complete list of lshw equipment is here . In short - IC i5-2410M, NV GT 555M Optimus, 1366x768 HD.
