CGI technology is currently relevant, and is it possible to call C / C ++ executables (linux) located on the server using a browser, for example, to search, and return the result in html form? The fact is that I found a book on this topic only for 2003.

The technology has not yet been canceled. Although now FastCGI is more readily used due to its speed (CGI is still not "Fast" :-) ).
