The best tutorial on rails IMHO guides.rubyonrails.org/
I have not seen anything better, including the above Agile Web Development with Rails did not like.
And on Ruby, I read Flanagan D., Matsumoto Y. The Ruby Programming Language

I liked the tutorial on ruby.railstutorial.org
throughout most of the book, building a microblogging service like twitter is covered.
section 1.1.1 provides recommendations on additional literature for various categories of readers
