Can the site counter be connected to localhost?

Hi all.
There is a pool of sites on vpske, all of them, in addition to Yandex metrics, use piwik (matomo) visit counting.
On all our sites, the visit script accesses the address count.sitename.ru
What if you specify the direct IP of the site or even localhost or 127.0.0.1?
If this is not possible, then please briefly justify your answer.
PS all sites are hosted on our vpsk
