Can the program download and run a virus after installation?

Let's imagine that the program containing the command to download a malicious file was installed on behalf of the administrator and the antivirus scan was successful (think there, some kind of link in the code). Can an unexpected download of a malicious file take your antivirus by surprise?

Of course it can. Stick gatekeepers into the code - by timer, by event ... A good antivirus, of course, should check what is being loaded there, but ... reality shows the opposite :)
