Can't start mysql, how to solve?

When I type "mysql" into the console, it gives me the following error.

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111)

I have already created a socket there, why can't it connect, what could it be?
