Nginx is already the de facto standard in the industry, and for a long time

For static or content proxying and subject to placement on a dedicated VDS / VPS server - NGINX will be better.
For dynamics, there is no performance difference between NGINX and Apache.
To expand functionality, fine-tune, when hosted under any OS , ease of work with access rights to various sections / directories of the site - Apache is best suited.
