Can SIMD MP GPUs work independently?

Hello! The question concerns AMD and nvidia graphics cards. SIMD MP is one instruction - different data. Those processors inside the SIMD MP all execute the same instructions. This creates difficulties, for example, branches do not work well. And can different SIMD MPs execute different instructions, work as independent calculators, without branching problems?
