Can packages for a new version of openwrt be installed on an old version of openwrt?

Good day to all! I decided to raise a virtual machine with openwrt on my mikrotik. I didn’t succeed in achieving the stability of the slave with Barrier Breaker 14.07, either some services constantly fell, or everything fell dead, or the router simply fell into a cyclic reboot (I tried different assemblies, including assembling it myself). Everything was the same with Attitude Adjustment 12.09, until I tried one assembly found on the Internet. Everything works and there is no hint of a fall. At the moment, there is a need to install the mosquitto broker on the MQTT virtual machine, but the version of the package for Attitude Adjustment is not the latest and there may be problems with it. Because of the fact that I talked with Linux for a maximum of two weeks in my entire life, the question arose: Can I, having compiled a package for Barrier Breaker 14.07, taking into account all dependencies, put it on your Attitude Adjustment, so that everything works and does not fall? That is, is the game worth the candle or is it not even worth trying?

I don’t know, of course, how much memory you have there, but build the image yourself using ImageBuilder and all the packages in the repository are already assembled. You just need to write one line - what platform, what programs and modules to sew into the image. Maybe you collected by hand? There are much more problems manually and a lot of time is spent.

Unable to achieve stability with Barrier Breaker 14.07? Wow... Have you tried to find out why it crashes? Have you tried to assemble the firmware yourself, cutting out everything unnecessary and putting only the required minimum? Regarding your question - yes it is possible. But guarantees that it will not fall cannot be given.
