Can I add my domain name (www.xxxxx.com) to a free heroku account?

it says you can. It turns out some kind of chaos if I can link a domain name to a free account, then why should I pay? (My site is almost a small landing page, you can say resources - it eats at least)
Well, and if this is possible, then why do they need my credit card?
