Budget motherboard + processor - what do you recommend?

A couple of hours ago, after a voltage drop, the ASUS P5B motherboard suddenly stopped working, having served faithfully for the past few years (after turning it on without squeaks, the power indicator and all the indicators on the keyboard start blinking a couple of times per second - most likely, half a second after turning on, the POST process is interrupted and everything starts all over again; the same with the peripherals turned off and the memory pulled out).

Boards with socket 775 (for my Core 2 Duo E4400) are available only on the G41 chipset with DDR3 memory (I have DDR2), which will also need to be bought. So I wondered if it was possible to "upgrade" the processor a little at the same time, while remaining in the same price range.

What would you recommend from budget processors and motherboards to replace the Core 2 Duo E4400 2 GHz? AMD or Intel and the form factor do not matter, you only need a PCI-E 16x slot for video. Which processors are currently winning in terms of price / performance?

UPD: Thanks everyone for the replies. In general, after a night on ixbt, I ordered a Celeron G530 (Sandy Bridge), which is much cheaper, and sometimes keeps at the level of Athlon and Phenom in terms of performance (it should be ~ 10% slower than the Pentium G620, which is in testing).

AMD in the budget segment has always ruled, I would look towards the AMD FX-4100. 4 cores [email protected], better than HT, which sometimes reduces performance on the contrary.

I sympathize. Buy necessarily UPS, a good thing.
About iron. Take AMD Athlon II X2 270 and for example MSI 760GM-P33.

I updated my motherboard for the E6650 processor, I bought Asus P5G41T-M LE. At first I was looking for a motherboard with DDR2, but when I saw that DDR3 costs almost 2 times cheaper, I settled on it (4gb).
The E6650 has a clock speed of 2.33, slightly overclocked to 2.66. This configuration is enough to work, especially on Linux.
For the motherboard had to add. put a radiator on the south bridge, it got very hot. And so everything is fine.

You can't go wrong. Even if the old vidyukha is covered, the built-in one will suffice for the first time.

I don’t know how relevant it is now, but a year ago it turned out to be very budget-friendly: Athlon II x3 (the 4th core and cache were unlocked), an AMD 785G chipset motherboard with integrated video, and a ddr3 RAM stick. I just recently bought a video and additional memory.
