There is a ready-made extension for bootstrap ( here ) I would like to understand what we edit in protected/config/main.php with some explanations. Many thanks in advance.

What about the meaning? Bootstrap 3 is built into yii2. At the same time, yii1 and yii2 are not very different, it will take a little time to master, especially for a beginner in yii1.
In addition, according to the link that you gave, there is no Bootstrap 3, there are only the 1st and 2nd. If the question is about the second, then for yii1 there is a wonderful product www.getyiistrap.com - this is essentially bootstrap2 adapted for yii1.
