Black screen after installing Linux - why?
Never installed Linux before.
I decided to put myself "Elementary OS" (next to Windows).
After installation, when starting Elementary, the logo first appears, and then a black screen. Although, if I run from a Live CD, then everything works fine.
Video - integrated nVIDIA GeForce 6100.
What could be the problem and how to fix it?
PS Googling... I tried to press the "E" key in "GNU GRUB" and add "nomodeset" before "quiet splash". The issue was not resolved.

I can be wrong, I'm lamer, but the proprietary driver from nvidia can help you
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
sudo install nvidia-xconfig
taken from the manual for installing proprietary drivers:
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t= 1806114
To get started, boot into recovery mode, go to the terminal and look at what is written in the logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log, dmessg command, try running startx and see what will swear).
Based on the information received, it will be possible to try to find the cause, and nothing is clear.
I assume you have a fairly old map.
Try a similar version of Ubuntu (if you took the latest stable, then this is 12.04).
If it works - it's in Elementary OS as such.
