If the phone supports SyncML technology and you trust Google, then you can set up address book synchronization via www.google.ru/mobile/sync/ .
This solution is, for obvious reasons, platform independent and can be adapted to any OS.
On Windows Mobile, I use pimbackup , plus synchronization with Google, as mentioned above.
In my opinion, there is a server option that should be supported by almost all modern phones - via SyncML.
I have not done this, and so far I cannot say anything about how convenient it is, etc.
But, this technology has a plus - it allows you to synchronize contacts with the server remotely, via GPRS, etc.
