Authorization by fingerprint in a compact device - is it real?

There is a small team, 10 people.
Tasks:

1. Remember a person's fingerprint and enter it into the database / send it to the REST microservice
   
2. Identify a person's identity by fingerprint using fingerprints in the database
   

A question for experts - how realistic and difficult is it to do, and what is the likely percentage of false positives? Please advise where to dig.
