But I would like to receive answers from the position of 2021. In an era of booming programming courses (seems to be a very lucrative niche) and growing competition in the job market...
So how old are you?

My vision of the issue (many letters, it is not necessary to read)

Иногда задумываюсь, а много ли перспектив у среднестатистического программиста лет через 10-15?
На тостере то и дело всплывают вопросы: Что посоветуете по программированию в 10 лет, 7 лет, 5 лет, в 4 месяца...

Как видно из ответов на эти вопросы, есть много противников слишком раннего обучения, но много и сторонников (иначе не было бы вопросов). А самые ярые приверженцы раннего обучения программированию - это, конечно же, маркетологи обучающих курсов по программированию, книг, приложений и т.д. Значит отдавать детей туда всё-таки будут, и этим детям нужно будет как-то составлять конкуренцию.

Небольшой диалог между сторонниками одного и другого лагеря:


Вот вроде бы как всё правильно говорит plustilino, но что-то подсказывает мне, что именно такие люди нужны рынку - биороботы, максимально дешево выполняющие задачу X, а не всесторонне развитые личности. Для задачи Y будет нанят другой биоробот, хорошо выполняющий именно эту задачу.

Что в итоге имеем (немного гиперболизировано, но всё же):
1. Либо выжимаем из ребёнка по-максимуму и получаем:
а) отвращение у него к IT-индустрии в целом и уход во что угодно, лишь бы не в IT
б) тру-программера с хорошими финансовыми перспективами
2. Либо до 15 лет пускай гоняет футбол, учится в школе, играет в игрульки... а далее если уж заинтересуется программированием, то поможем чем сможем... На выходе скорее всего получится среднестатистический войтишник с весьма туманными перспективами на рынке труда (ведь вокруг будет масса подростков из п.1), но на фрилансе на корку хлеба возможно ещё можно будет заработать.

Всё это мне напоминает балет: "Что? В 7 лет ваша девочка ещё не умеет выполнять простейшие ПА? Что-то вы припозднились с обучением..." А много ли из этих девочек становятся в будущем успешными балеринами? (не а-ля волочкова - рогатки в инсте раздвигать, а успешными в профессиональной среде).

На тему курсов, трудоустройства и конкуренции в IT также кстати была статья недавно на eb**om, заставляющая немного задуматься
