Are there document management systems with parent-child dependencies between documents?

What are document management systems with ancestor-child relationships. I want the authors of the descendant documents to be notified when a parent document changes that they need to be updated. For example, if I am the author of an HLD that is based on the SRS, then I want the HLD to go into "needs update" status when the SRS changes. In general, it would be ideal if such a system supports the process of reviewing documents.
I would be grateful for any hints.
