Are there any major differences for a mysql or mariadb beginner?
there is one very good guide for installing the application I need for ubuntu server 18.04, I want to use it, but there a person uses mariadb, and I have never worked with him, in general, it’s not really necessary, but in the near future it will be necessary to install the site and one more application, and it works on mysql
, now the problem is how to make friends with all this, can I install mysql and not take a steam bath? Or is there not much difference and you can put at least something?

At the level of settings, there are some differences, the likelihood that this will be important to you is not great. At the level of compatibility with applications, there is actually no difference.
Just keep in mind that MySQL needs to be installed from their native repository, because mariadb is sometimes hidden under the name mysql-server in the turnips of distributions. There is not much difference, but sometimes some jamb can come out and in order to solve it you need to know exactly what you have.
