AR vs Data Mapper in terms of dealing with linked tables?

Which of the subject is the most convenient and faster in terms of performance. More or less got acquainted with AR in practice and fully felt the disadvantages of the pattern. I decided to get acquainted with the Data Mapper pattern. In general, you need to decide whether it is worth wasting time at all if working with linked tables is just as poorly implemented as in the case of AR?

The question is very tricky. I saw requests for both AR and ORM of varying complexity.
I collect the latest projects on ORM, and if the client wants reports or tricky requests, I rewrite them on pdo.
