Any OS inside "resets" the resolution instantly, how to fix it?

virtual box

The first thing I did was install the guest OS add-on, set the resolution to any. It changes and then everything comes back. So on any guest OS, at least Linux.
Tried another tip

VBoxManage.exe setextradata "W8 VM NAME HERE" CustomVideoMode1 1920x1200x32

but did not help either, how to be? Where to dig?

the VirtualBox 6.1.28 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack update
or a new installation helped... usb 3.0 does not work in the VM right away, so it was not there, but everything should work without it, strange
