Antiminer or exchange?

Hello.
What is the point of solo mining?
Here is the Antiminer T14-40Th/s for $1050.
Using the cryptocompare.com calculator, I would have made $163 profit per month.
But, having invested a piece of bucks in the purchase of bitcoin, 3 months ago, I received $ 1000+ profit.
Maybe I don't understand something?
