Android as a hotspot

I asked myself this question, is it possible to distribute the Internet from a desktop computer using a smartphone? That is, a phone connected via usb to a computer with the Internet should distribute the Internet to any other device (wi-fi), essentially being a router. After all, if it is possible to distribute "mobile Internet", then why not home? (Phone LG P500, android 2.3.3., PC win7 )

Rooted can, in principle. There you will need to screw in iptables, create a usb connection that is correct from the point of view of ifconfig, then turn on the Internet scrambler (so that wlan0 rises). Well, then NAT'it.

Why invent such a complicated bike? Is it possible to distribute from a USB-wifi-stick?

htc itself can work as a hotspot, but distribute via wi-fi 3g / zhprs. (from the box)

Dvornik gave the correct answer above.
I want to add, I myself was so perverted until I found the ability of the computer itself to distribute the Internet via Wi-fi (although for this it should be) - Connectify
