An article about semiconductor devices?

I want to post an article about semiconductor devices in the electronics for beginners blog.
The article will talk about diodes and their properties, such as:
Zener diodes, rectifier diodes, varicaps, pulse diodes - as well as why they are needed and where they are used. Not enough karma, 2-3. Please help if anyone is interested.
