Alternatives to mongoose with more modern API design?

Are there any alternatives to mongoose, with a cleaner and more modern API?
Somehow it all looks deplorable with inheritance and es6 classes, it looks like crutches for historical reasons. I used to use the mongodb driver package without ODM to work with this database stupidly from my models, I would like to switch to ODM for the sake of ready-made OOP goodies, but it seems that in mongoose it looks rather sad for 2019. To be honest, I don’t really see what the advantages are in mongoose if you can’t inherit transparently there. The design is kind of weird.
