Ajax indexing of sites by search engines?

How are things today (May 2019) with ajax indexing of sites without server rendering? Google claims that they have learned to index such sites, but how does this work out in practice? Is Yandex developing in this direction and what ways are there to help search engines in indexing besides ssr?

Badly.
Google recommends doing SSR or dynamic rendering. Deliver search-friendly JavaScript-powered websites
Prerendering.

Just 2 weeks ago I uploaded a simple site on vue.
Yandex - zero. zero. Google indexed very badly.
The main 3 pages had to be done through prerender.

Google indexes everything perfectly, but it is important to correctly register 404 pages so that such pages do not get into the search. It's best to do this with noindex tags by default, and remove the tags if the rendering completed correctly.
