Acceptance of plastic in a retail store?

Good afternoon.
Asked the question of merchant acquiring.
The task is to enable customers to pay for purchases with plastic. I imagine how Internet acquiring works, here is my usual dark forest.
As I understand it, you need a device ala verifon that communicates with the bank and approves or rejects the payment.
Hence a few questions.
1) How to set up this device? How does it know which bank to contact?
2) How will the device transfer the payment data to the store system (or does the cashier do it?)
3) What device do you recommend? Are there any that can communicate with the store system via TCP / IP (self-written system)?
Is it possible that the device communicates with the store's system - transmits credit card data to it, and the system itself communicates with the bank?

Usually, when a store or company that collects a fee wants to accept plastic cards for payment, it concludes an agreement with a bank that has the right and opportunity to carry out such activities. The bank, in turn, provides the company or store with a plastic terminal, which, in the simplest case, prints a check confirming the blocking of funds (namely, blocking, the transaction itself occurs later). More advanced models can directly connect to the cash register and then everything happens automatically.
The device for accepting cards and communication with the bank is usually the concern of the bank.

All these questions will be answered by employees of the bank or company that you choose to provide acquiring. They must provide equipment, tell how it works, train cashiers. There are many nuances in everything, starting from the choice of a terminal (they differ in speed, for example) and ending with the features of rolling chipped / non-chip cards.
