about learning php "from scratch"

what is available: a person, 26 years old, M, who knows a PC at the ICQ-browser level ( not me, but my friend )
what you want to get: a person who knows the basics of programming (variables, loops, functions), knows the basics of php, can write the same type of scripts on the php-framework, a

person is not creative, the most ordinary. all his life he was interrupted by various earnings (taxi, delivery of orders, head of a department at a factory), but now I want to change his life for the better.

the first thought, of course, is to look for some simple courses
, please recommend something in Novosibirsk, if you have come across any

one, in principle, has already been taught after 26 years of installing elevators, but for 2 years + he still studied at the university, where he studied some basics of C. now writes desktop software in c++/qt

in general, how long do you think it will take a person if he really wants to achieve this? I repeat, the goal is basic programming skills, knowledge of the basics of PHP, knowledge of a simple framework (practically without OOP)

You can train a programmer in php in 3 months. Thoughtful reading of the manual is enough, most of the books are crafty, and often with errors (even those recommended by zend contain funny blunders).
However, if the task is to first make a programmer out of a person, then it is more difficult, and depends on learning ability. Here you can start with a basic set of books recommended by Zend shop.zend.com/en/php-books , but ideally, you would start with the classics of Kernighan and Ritchie in C, because. to learn programming with php = to be left without many important basics, which will then come out in the most stupid places.

In a week, if desired, the basics of programming in php can be mastered.
I remember a couple of days before the interview I started learning php and successfully passed it (the threshold was not high), but at the same time I knew how to program at that time also in another language.
Can you find literature on php on the net?
Now I will try to look for courses in Novosibirsk.

Courses are definitely a way out, since a person who is very far from everyday coding will not always become smarter even from reading a book. Well, you also need to be more specific - you need some kind of web developer or just a person for a narrowly focused work of the same type, if the latter, then I think a week of looking behind the back into the workflow is enough, with a parallel browsing of literature "for dummies" .

there are video lectures on PHP on intuit. According to the book, if you make an effort, it will turn out faster, but the video will be simpler.
Of course, one cannot do without a book, and even more so the Internet.

A very interesting question. I have repeatedly wondered if I could teach, for example, my mother (techie, chemist, but with a computer - the average between you and you) and how long this will take.
I think that three months of diligent study is enough for your friend (age is also important here and the flexibility of the mind). The main thing is that he was interested in this and that he liked it at least a little. If he decides, then ask him to create a blog - it will be very interesting to read;)
ps ^ IMHO, all these courses for beginners are complete crap (I did not meet a single exception). Often they are taught by people who themselves have only recently asked the questions “what is php?” It is unrealistic to interest a professional PHP programmer (and even one who knows how to teach) in teaching the basics to absolute beginnersextremely difficult. Let him read books and turn to you for help.

After learning the language, you can still go to www.itconstruct.ru/ as a trainee for free, in general, I think they will teach you a lot, their director is Roman Petrov (by the way, he teaches at NGTU, I think you can ask him about courses) a kind-hearted person.

I personally taught a person theory in a year (PHP learns by reading a couple of books, this is not an indicator), he passes any interview for a junior like two fingers, just many companies do not take such people because they have no work experience.

How to get basic programming skills - it all depends on the mindset.
If you have an engineering mindset and you start from scratch, then you will need at least six months to learn a programming language from books or courses. The fact is that it is not so difficult, just in six months all the information should fit in your head. If you are not starting from a level zero, the study time can be greatly reduced, because. PHP at the framework level is extremely simple.
If you have a humanitarian mindset, then you are not allowed to learn a programming language.
Most importantly, choose your courses and book wisely!
For example, I want to smash the head of a certain Evgeny Popov for his video courses on the asphalt. Thanks to his video courses, we now have a whole generation of php coders using win-1251 encoding and printf.

Well, in general, as it seems to me, for starters, you need to at least to some extent master html + css. There are webinars from the PHP Specialist lying around on torrents, you can start with them in general, well, reading the documentation is the best source of knowledge.

He needs a Knuth!)))) More precisely, the book “The Art of Programming” by Donald Knuth or similar literature that focuses on logical thinking and algorithms, and then let him start learning a particular language. Otherwise, it may turn out to be a bydlocoder, which then will be difficult to retrain to program normally and think algorithmically.
