A few questions about the operation of the SSD (the first time I took an SSD)
Good afternoon!
I took OCZ Vector 128Gb yesterday. I immediately put Win7 on it. Trim checked. Removed superfetch and indexing. Left the swap file. The following questions remain:
1. Is it worth keeping the Dropbox and Google Drive folders on it? If I understand correctly, there is frequent overwriting, which is fatal for an SSD. A WD 750Gb is connected in parallel, though there are problems with bad sectors. That's exactly why I changed it. That is, now he is in fact a file-washing machine.
2. Putting heavy games on an SSD or on a second drive, if on a second one, will it greatly affect performance?
3. Do I need any additional software to service the SSD?
4. Do I need to update the firmware, current 1.0.3?
5. What are the signs of a disk dying?
Thanks in advance!

1. I can’t even calculate how many files I need to drive through dropbox to kill the ssd.
2. As you wish. I put on a normal disk.
3. Yes, do TRIM at least once a week.
4. Works - do not touch (c) anecdote
5. SSDs die immediately.
Backups and relax. It's just a piece of iron, it is not necessary to treat it with such trepidation.
1. It’s not worth it, I don’t believe it, you have a real Internet of about 800 Mbps and higher, so that a regular HDD can’t handle it, and it’s unlikely that you store files of such sizes that it will work noticeably slower on the HDD
2. Put heavy games quietly on SSD , do not suffer 3. No, I really
have
SSDLife to look at the status, it promises almost eternal life for both (there are 2 pieces)
hours
5. Unless infa from SMART, SSDLife will be able to show.
From additional tips:
1. Leave the swap file as small as possible (although I don’t know how much memory you have), if 8 or more, make it small and take it to the HDD.
2. Transfer Chrome to the HDD, this beast writes a lot, it may work a little slower, but it will prolong the life of the SSD.
My first SSD is almost 1.5 years old with about 2.5TB of storage, which is nothing by SSD standards. 1 rearranged the system, drove heavy games on it before buying a second one.
Here a friend also asked about SSDs and virtual machines, I noted there with my experience of using SSDs so as not to copy a
lot of
text
here lower the speed and responsiveness of the system and increase the chance of a swap hitting problematic sectors of the screw => Windows BSOD. I have all documents/desktop/downloads/torrents taken out of my user profiles in C:\Users and the media library is wrapped on the HDD.
> 4. Do I need to update the firmware, current 1.0.3?
Official updater www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Vertex_4_and_Agility_4/
Regarding the firmware update, this is the very first step that needs to be taken after installing the SSD in the computer. And even before the installation of a system or breakdown on it.
In older versions of OCZ, there was one unpleasant bug in the firmware, which could well have corrupted the device under certain conditions. There was also a bug with a strong decrease in performance.
So, the first step is to update the firmware.
Everything is relative, I personally went through OCZ, Kingston and Crucial. And I settled on Intel :)
I have 2 OCZs working for a year and a half. Everything is fine there. True, I have Vertex3.
I always updated the error - no problem.
