4x8 vs 2x16 ram?

Hey!
I'm going to buy an iMac, I decided to buy the RAM separately. I have heard that it is much better to buy a smaller volume but in a larger quantity. Can you tell me how critical this is? The problem is that if I take 4x8, then in order to upgrade to 64GB in the future, I will have to sell the current strips, and with 2x16 I can simply buy the same kit.
