Apple TV for a Russian user?
Tomorrow I'm buying a new TV, and I really wanted to buy an Apple TV set-top box in addition to it. Our overseas brothers admire it, and I don’t even know what you can do in Russia on it, except to watch YouTube.

I traded my popcorn for Apple TV2, which I don’t regret at all.
The interface is pleasant, there are no inhibitions.
There are problems when downloading movies from torrents, you have to convert to mp4.
But you can also download finished movies in mp4 from the same torrents - there is simply less choice.
Previously, popcorn supported 1080p for me - but I rarely watched it in this quality.
I don't watch anything on Apple TV except 720p.
If you know English well, then you can use the content without any problems. On average, film rental costs from 0.99; new items — $3.99 (or $4.99).
Jailbreak worth it. I don't use it at all. Still, the simplicity and intuitiveness of the standard ios interface pleases me much more.
First of all, appletiv for any country is interesting by installing xbmc on it
Is it possible to enjoy Apple TV with "fat" TV (av, scart) inputs, or converting from hdmi to analog signal is like brushing your teeth with a drill with a drill bit?
Apple TV for the Russian user is not the most convenient option. Convert everything to mp4 evil.
The main question is what other apple technology do you have.
Without everything, AppleTV can go to several services like youtube - but it is important to set the US store region in the settings there. By default, the region of the store will be equal to the account and there will be no menus other than "computers" and "settings" at all. We are calmly changing the region, we will not buy anything from the TV anyway.
Everything written below assumes that the devices are on a common network (wifi or wired).
If you only have an iPhone/iPad, launch Airplay Mirroring from any application and display the game, movie, book, website on the screen. The function is active only for the latest versions of operating systems and relatively recent models - definitely not for the first iPad.
If you have a poppy, everything is more interesting here, with iTunes open, turn on Home Sharing and have access to the entire media library from iTunes / iPhoto on AppleTV - all movies, music, photo albums with a lot of slideshow settings. In short, I generally forgot the last time I watched videos or photos on a computer. The time at which a movie is paused from iTunes is naturally perfectly synchronized by all TVs, mobile devices and computers.
If you have iTunes on Windows, then perhaps a significant part of the functionality above will work, I have not tried it. I strongly doubt, however, regarding photo albums and especially slideshows - AppleTV uses all the classic settings from iPhoto.
This Airplay from the computer requires only the fact that iTunes is open with the Home sharing checkbox turned on, and being in the same grid. On the computer itself, we work as we want, I just have iTunes hanging around the clock somewhere in full screen.
Finally, Airplay Mirroring on AppleTV is possible from under Mountain Lion - transferring the entire image and sound of what is currently on the computer screen. Unfortunately, multiple desktops and monitors are not supported; the computer in this case is enslaved by AppleTV and nothing else can be done on it. to control as a remote control, you can use the iPhone / iPad located in the same grid through the Rowmate program, it seems.
I have three AppleTVs and I'm very happy with them. the network at 2.4 is of course sensitive to microwaves, there are no lags for 5 (but this no longer depends on the device).
