A customer needs a funnel site, what is it?

Help me please. For the first time, a customer asked to create a funnel site for him.
I did landings, I did business cards, I did forums, I did social networks, but now I'm dumb:
1) How is a funnel site different from a regular landing?
2) How will the site rank in search engines? Or in other words, how to promote it?

This question should be asked to the customer, most likely we are talking about a sales funnel, this is a landing page on which there will be a "trial", that is, a free or cheap demo version of a paid product.

There is only a "sales funnel", and what a funnel site is is clearly more visible to the Customer.
