Where to put the folder with the tar.gz program?

A question. Downloaded Intellij IDEA in tar.gz. Where should I unzip the program in Ubuntu?
In /opt ?

To start the application, open a console, cd into "{installation home}/bin" and type:

       ./idea.sh

     This will initialize various configuration files in the configuration directory:
     ~/.config/JetBrains/IntelliJIdea2020.2.

Yes, best in /opt.

If you are the only one working on a computer, it makes sense to put it not in system partitions, but in your home directory.
